Martin House

This year's beneficiary is Martin House Hospice for Children and Young People. Although situated in Clifford, near Wetherby, the Hospice gives respite, palliative and terminal care, free of charge, to youngsters with a life-limiting illness from all over Yorkshire.

Martin House provides a home from home environment and families can use any mix of a range of services which include respite care, symptom control, nursing and practical care, terminal care and bereavement support. The same range of services is also offered to the families in their own home.

During 2006 Martin House Hospice supported 397 children, young people and families and 130 bereaved families.

The work of the Hospice costs around £3.5 million each year, of which only 6% (about £200,000) comes from statutory sources. The remainder comes, in the main, from voluntary sources.
